Lizards

It probably got its name from the small star-like spots in the sky (stella is the Latin word for star) and agama from the agamid family of which it is a subspecies.

It looks like a snake (and it's in trouble) but it's a legless lizard. This means it has eyelids and auditory openings, unlike snakes which are deaf.

Variant of our well-known mosteritsa, with which it has the same characteristics, recently recognized as a separate species found only in the areas wetted by the Ionian.

In Corfu we call it mosteritsa but is also known as gustera or gusteritsa and more commonly as balkanosaurus.

This is the largest lizard with limbs in our country. Body length up to 16cm with a tail twice the length of the body or more.

The konaki is a type of legless lizard that resembles both a chameleon and a snake.

Tarentola mauritanica, known as the common wall gecko, is a species of gecko (Gekkota) native to the western Mediterranean area of North Africa and Europe.
