The main mammals of the Corfu countryside are foxes, hares, petrokunava, weasels, hedgehogs, black mice, house mice and many aspalaks (moles).
Until a few years ago, healthy populations of jackals lived in Corfu, which have now probably disappeared.
Corfu is one of the few islands in our country where otters are found, while in recent years the native beavers have also acclimatized. The otter is a mammal adapted to aquatic life, 65 - 100 cm long, not counting its tail which can reach a length of 50 cm. The areas where otters have been found in recent years are the Antinioti, Halikiopoulou, Korission lagoons, the Lefkimmi Salt Flats, the wetlands of the Municipality of Kassiopaion, the Tyflos River with its tributaries, the Polis River, the Messongi River, the Lefkimmi River , the Roppas river and Stravopotamos.
Many species of bats live on the island, such as Rhinolophus ferrumequinum, Rhinolophus hipposideros, Myotis blythii, Myotis myotis, Bechstein's myotid (Myotis bechsteinii), pyrromyotid ( Myotis emarginatus), the Natterer's myotid (Myotis nattereri), the mustached bat (Myotis mystacinus), the white bat (Pipistrellus kuhlii), the winged bat (Miniopterus schreibersii) and the little bat (Eptesicus serotinus).
