Vatos
Two ancient Greek words, als and plisso (sea and hit) formed the word “aliplaktos” (sea-beaten), it is possible to rephrase if Prof. D.N. Maronitis did not render the word with this unique term: sea-kissed. Liapades and the nearby port Alipa, took their name from aliplakto> alipla> alipa> alipades> liapades. With one word, Liapades mean sea-kissed.
All surrounded beaches in this bless area confirm this term, Rovinia Klimatia, Limni, Kolias, Iliodoros, Kamari, Stelari, Chomi are of rare beauty and purity,
Even the local wine is sea-kissed since its breath sea air on the western slopes. It’s the well know variety kakotrygis with the unique colour and taste.
Liapades is a beautiful, traditional village with about 1000 residents near Palaiokastritsa, built in a verdant area. Despite the tourist development of the region, Liapades fully maintains its traditional character, both the Venetian architecture of the village and the habits and everyday life of its residents. Do not be surprised if you meet, even today, in alleys of the settlement, peasants with their donkeys, an image which offers authentic moments of the countryside during holidays.
You can swim in the main beach of Liapades, which has tourist action but, also in the more isolated Rovinia, which is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. You can also visit by boat, one of the approximately 15 small beaches of the region with crystal clear and turquoise waters, totally calm which are not accessible by land.
Liapades has all the necessary touristic facilities for the visitor. In the main square of the village, there are traditional taverns and coffee shops, as well as the church of Agia Anastasia Farmakolitria.
Churches
Agia Anastasia Farmakolitria
Imposing church, built in the 17th century in the style of a basilica without a dome. Ourania (ceiling) is painted in a Renaissance (baroque) style, with beautiful paintings, old icons and an impressive marble temple.
Agii Theodori
The history of this small temple, which is located in a beautiful picturesque environment in nature, is connected to the defense of the village, when it was still in danger from the raids of Algerian pirates. It used to be a monastery. The monks' cells are still preserved as well as the large Venetian well that exists outside the temple.
Agios Nikolaos
The temple is built in the style of a basilica without a dome and behind its construction, there is the story of the Nino family who offered their belongings to the temple and to the Saint who protected them. The inventory of the church, signed in 1753 by Agostin Sagredo, gives us a lot of information about the assets as well as about the land registry of the church that was lost and was found again in 1928. For some time it also functioned as a school.
Agia Thekla
The oldest church in the village is built in the style of a basilica without a dome. It was renovated at the beginning of the 20th century to meet the needs of the faithful, with the result that the bell tower was demolished. Since then the church remains without a bell tower.
Other churches of the village are the Holy Theotokos Odigitria and Agia Anastasia the Roman, quite far from the settlement.
