Varipatades
Pelekas village has 350 residents who are involved in tourism and agricultural activities. In the area, they produce honey, olive oil, and various Mediterranean vegetables. There are various tourist accommodations and shops selling souvenirs in the region. Vineyards of Kakotriki and Petro Corinth are present, producing local wine.
The attractive spots in the area include three of the most beautiful beaches in Corfu: Kontogialos, Glyfada, and Nisiotissa, which are perhaps among the most famous in the region. In the surrounding area, there are various flowers and herbs like thyme, oregano, sage, and more. Churches in the region include Panagia, Agios Onoufrios, Agioi Anargyroi, Odigitria, Agios Nikolaos, and Evangelistria. Festivals in the area are celebrated on the second day of Easter, Litany of Agios Georgios on May 20th, Agios Nikolaos on June 12th, Agios Onoufrios on August 23rd, Odigitria on August 12th, and Myrtiotissa on the 24th of September.
Water in the village comes from local drilling. A point of historical interest is Kaiser's Observatory, built on top of the hill in the 19th century, offering a panoramic view of the entire Corfu and towards Italy. The village boasts a spectacular sunset and a 360-degree view. Famous personalities, including Kaiser, and all those visiting the island pass through the renowned beaches of Glyfada, Kontogialos, and Veltos. The cuisine typically features Mediterranean dishes.
The village has a Cultural Association, Pelekas, organizing various cultural events.
